With all respect to the honourable judges, to all of audiences here, ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning!

First of all, let us thank Allah SWT which because of his blessings, we all can gather here on this event. Peace and salutation be upon to our noble character Muhammad peace is upon him.
In this opportunity I would like to deliver my speech about “Promoting the important role of Indonesia in the International world”. As the people of Indonesia do you ever think the most important role of Indonesia in the international world?

Indonesia is a country that has the three largest tropical forests in the world after Brazil and Congo.
As the owner of the largest tropical forest which becomes the world lungs, Indonesia has the important role in maintaining the balance of the earth environment, including the climate change, so it essential to pay more attention

Ladies and Gentlemen…
The existence of the forest nowadays becomes very important because the forest has three roles in influencing the changing in the global climate. Namely as absorbent, storage, and at the same time it is also as the source of greenhouse gases.
Greenhouse gases are gases that caused atmosphere damage and caused the greenhouse effect, where the temperature of the earth increased. These gases in fact emerged naturally in the environment, and also can emerge resulting from the activity of humankind.
In relation to each role, the forest must be managed well in order to be able to absorb and keep the green house gases as much gases as possible. It is also expected to lessen the GHG emission to maintain the climate change which is now becoming phenomenon of the global heating.
Indonesian law on forestry stated that that the forest must be use for the welfare of the whole citizen and to increase the economic condition, to do this it is both the role of Indonesian government and the world official to manage and to supervise forestry in order to get rid off deforestation.

What has been done by the Indonesian government? The department of Forestry as the length hands of the government intensively continued gave an adequate input, and provides more incentive to the forest staff and manager who had done prime jobs but drop back the incentive if they don’t do the job properly.

The government of Indonesia also has put priority in rehabilitation program to overcome forest deforestation and land degradation, one of the program is reforestation program by the government agency and all the people of Indonesia to maintain conservation of the forest, at least eliminate deforestation and degradation this program is done continuously every year.

For example until the year 2005, the government of Indonesia had developed the crop forest for 3.906.883 hectare that consisted of the Industrial Forest (HTI), Gerhan Plant, non Gerhan, and the citizen Forest (HTR).
Till the year 2025 later, the Department of Forestry will project to develop crop forest up to 25.615.492 hectare.

Indonesia has also been playing his role as the conference host of United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in the year 2007 which was just carried out in Denpasar last December 3-14 2007. This conference had produced several decisions and the most important decision is called Balinese Roadmap. The decision was made as preparations for the UN conference about the global climate change that will be held in Copenhagen (Denmark) during 2009. Further, the results of the conference in Copenhagen will be ratified by the countries in the world to replace Kyoto Protocol that will be end in the year 2012.

Basically, Balinese Roadmap was steps about the agreement of the adaptation action, the reduction road in greenhouse gases emissions, and the transfer of technology and finance that covered the adaptation and mitigation.

How crucial the earth environmental problems we face were different from another environment rumour that only has local impact; whereas the global warming impact will strike all the surface of the earth. Not even one country that can avoid global warming. Environmental damage resulting from global warming is indicated not only will paralyse the development of economics, but also threatened the continuation of the human life.

Finally I would like to conclude that the government of Indonesia has done some effort to protect the earth from destruction. By reforestation and work hand in hand with the countries in the world that concern about the existence of the earth.

Indonesia as the country with a large tropical forest has a golden opportunity to carve the history to save the nations in the world by protecting and maintaining green forest in preventing the global warming.
